I have completed the construction of Ryan’s guitar.  I have engraved the heel cap and have sprayed  several top coats of lacquer. Just a few more coats and then I will let the lacquer harden before buffing. So far the guitar is looking fantastic. I cant wait to install all of the components and string it up.     Not much longer Ryan.

Here is the “second” burst for this guitar. The first attempt was very nice but it covered to much of the incredible figure of this guitar. With Ryan’s input, he decided to have more of the natural figure of the curly maple show and spray a subtle burst around the edge. I think he made the right choice. Its looks great

  1. Here are some new pictures of the John B. all koa DCS. I have bent the sides and am gluing in the tailblock. I have also joined both the tops and the backs. The five piece neck has been joined and rough cut. It is constructed with mahogany curly maple and purpleheart.  It will have a birdseye maple fingerboard. Looks beautiful so far.

If you haven’t noticed, I really love working with beautifully figured wood. Being a guitar builder that uses several different kinds of exotic woods, I am constantly looking for some of the most beautiful pieces. I have a pretty nice collection of wood that I have bought with a particular idea for a new guitar. Unfortunately, most of my “nice collection”  will most likely never be used for guitar making.

However, I do have other interest besides guitar building. I am an avid hunter and sportsman. I have used some of my woodworking skills, and leftover guitar wood, to make some boutique turkey calls.  I also have combined my woodworking passion and my love for hunting by learning how to engrave gunstocks. Hopefully, I will soon be able to duplicate gunstocks and then engrave the new stock to make an old gun look like a custom boutique firearm. I also make heirloom quality jewelry boxes for the non hunters.

So remember if you are interested in any of the items that I build don’t hesitate to ask. I also will consider bartering for certain items that relate to my interests.

I am building this guitar for my website designer. He has created this website for me and has given me the opportunity to let people know about my work. Thanks so much.

This guitar is constructed with a  mahogany body with a master grade curly maple top. It has paua abalone block inlays in an ebony fingerboard. The hardware will be all black and it will be equipped with Seymour Duncan humbuckers and through the body string ferrules. It will also have a slight brown sunburst over a natural finish. It should look awesome.

I am gathering the materials for the construction of an all Koa DCS Bent Sides model for John B. This guitar will feature master grade curly koa top, back and sides . It will also have a birdseye maple fingerboard bound with koa. The body will be bound with curly maple and will have a  lipstick pickup to accompany the K&K pure western pickup installed on the bridgeplate.
